Olson Ogden Russian River Pinot Noir 2007
Pinot Noir from Russian River, California
The color is medium to dark cherry red. In the nose red fruits dominate and there are hints of cola, spices and a touch of forest floor. This is a full bodied, well balanced, intense young Pinot Noir. It is complex and full of flavor with a long, lingering finish. It has the structure made for aging and patient cellaring over the next three to ten years will be rewarded.
PinotReport - "Medium ruby color; deep, earthy, red cherry aromas; rich, ripe, rich, spice, red cherry and cola flavors with some earthy notes; silky texture; good structure and balance; long finish. Rich, ripe Pinot that is pretty now and yet has the structure for some age."
Wine Enthusiast - "A big improvement over the ’06, ripe and rich in flavor, and capable of aging. The wine is dry and silky, with deep, impressive flavors of cherries, red currants, Dr. Pepper cola and sandalwood, as well as Burgundian, earthy notes of mushrooms and balsam. Delicious now, yet the tannins suggest a glidepath through 2013. "
Wine Spectator - "Firm and complex, with dark fruit built around wild berry, blackberry, black cherry, floral and spice. Full-bodied, deep and persistent, with a long, lingering finish. Drink now through 2013."
Connoisseurs' Guide - "Full-bodied and fully expressed, this somewhat raw-boned take on the variety earns its spurs for its nicely framed aromas of ripe black cherries, hints of cocoa and soupcon of sweet oak. Big and rich, filled with plenty of succulent Pinot Noir fruit at its generous heart and certain to smooth out with time in bottle, this is a very tasty and promising wine."

About Russian RiverView a map of Russian River wineries
The Russian River Valley is named as such due to its proximity to the Russian River, the river itself named for the Russian fur traders who came down from Alaska in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Russian River is agricultural land. While there is a focus on wine, beyond the vineyards are many small, family-owned farms cultivating everything from cattle to Christmas trees.
Notable FactsThe proximity of this cool river and the rolling fogs from the Pacific Ocean make the area amenable to cool-climate grapes like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In fact, the region is quite known for its full-bodied, yet elegant Pinot Noir, as well as their ripe, yet lean Chardonnays. Within Russian River Valley lie the smaller appellations of Chalk Hill and Green Valley. Chalk Hill is the warmer of the two and furthest from the ocean, while Green Valley is cooler and closer to the water.
About CaliforniaIt's not rare to see a wine's country of origin listed as "California." A country into itself in the wine world, California makes enough varieties and styles to match many European wine countries. It produces a diverse range of wines that span the quality spectrum.

Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
