Winemaker Notes

The color is deep, with some brick hue indicating maturity. Attractive to smell, with minty raspberries, fresh earth and spices, along with some cedar and tobacco from bottle age. There is good depth to the palate, which is still fresh in flavor, with medium body, refreshing acidity and a nice balance and harmony. Not a big wine but a nicely weighted Cabernet, now fully mature. A good result from a more tricky vintage.

The opaque blue/black/purple-colored 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is even more impressive from bottle than it was from barrel. This is a great effort displaying first-growth quality. It boasts a stunningly pure nose of creme de cassis, cedar, licorice, smoke, and vanilla. As it sits in the glass, notions of chocolate also emerge. This full-bodied Cabernet builds incrementally in the mouth. The finish lasts for 45 seconds. A magnificent example, its seamlessness and concentration are profound. This impressive newcomer has not had the time to establish a track record, but I would be shocked if this wine did not evolve for 12-15 years. It should still be drinking well at age 25.

Noon, Australia
Noon Winery Image
The darling of the Australian small winery scene, Noon has a great following both in Australia and in particular the US. Drew Noon produces some unique wines packed with ripe red fruit and often high levels of alcohol. Drew Noon took over operating the family owned Noon winery after spending time as Winemaker at Cassegrain and other ventures in Victoria.

The Eclipse and Reserve shiraz can command high levels of capital increase and are definitely wines to hold on to (if you can get them).
