winemaker's notes:

The home vineyard of Nickel & Nickel, Sullenger Vineyard is situated behind the winery in the heart of Oakville and is named for John C. Sullenger, who settled the farmstead in the 1880's. The vineyard's 30 acres of clay loam soil are planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2007 Sullenger has the blackberry and black cherry flavors that seem to express themselves so often in Oakville, but it is the velvety texture and chewiness of this wine on the palate that emphasizes its alluring qualities. The consistency of the flavors, as promised by the aromas, carries through to a finish that is in fact, mouth watering.

critical acclaim:

"From a valley floor vineyard, the opaque purple-hued 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon John C. Sullenger Vineyard offers up restrained aromas of subtle smoke, graphite and black fruits. More narrowly constructed and tannic, it is among the most backward wines in this portfolio, possessing a Bordeaux-like structure and flavor profile. It requires 4-5 years of cellaring and should keep for 20-25 years.

The Wine Advocate

"From the vineyard surrounding the Nickel and Nickel winery in Oakville, this grows on the valley floor just north of the Oakville Crossroad and east of 29. It's a floral cabernet with scents of roses and hints of green. The cherry flavors fill out a fleshy texture, while tart sanguine tannins provide a touch of bitterness to balance the fruit. this needs several years in the cellar to meld."

rating (7/26/2011):

Deep Ruby Color; Raspberry on the Nose; Medium to Full Bodied; Pronounced fruit on the palate; Mouth-coating tannins; Nice long Finish. Will definitely get better with age, but thoroughly enjoyable now as well. This was a birthday gift from my honey....Had it with New York Strip Steaks and some Goat Gouda....YUMMY!!
Style:Smooth & Supple
rating (12/28/2011):
It is a good wine but not a good value for your money in my opinion. Most likely too early to be drinking this wine. Needs time in the cellar.
