We've lived in the Napa Valley for almost 40 years and much of that time has been spent growing Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and making wine from them. The vagaries of a growing region become familiar after that many harvests, and it's obvious by now that a growing season like that of 2007 is rare. We had adequate rainfall that winter to see the vines through our typically dry summers. Frost concern in the early spring was minor. Flowering went without unseasonably warm or cold weather, so the crop level was ideal. Then we enjoyed a mild summer - one of the most comfortable I've spent in the Napa Valley in a decade - and watched as the cool, even weather of the harvest season allowed us to extend the growing season well into early October. The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon we made from the organically grown fruit on our Conn Valley Ranch is a wine with flavor, character and elegance, the clear result of organically grown grapes and natural winemaking. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, there is nothing added and nothing removed. The French would call it a wine of breed, a Vin de Garde with great promise. Our expectations are equally high.
