Naked Mountain Vineyard

Naked Mountain Vineyard owners, Bob and Phoebe Harper, fondly refer to their start as a hobby that got out of hand. They had been amateur winemakers for years before finding property upon which to etablish their vinifera vineyard. The first grapes were planted in the spring of 1976--Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. After continuing the expansion of the vineyard over the next several years, the winery was established in 1981. The largest production is barrel fermented chardonnay which accounts for almost 75% of the production. Riesling, done in the style of a German mosel, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon are also produced.

The red shouldered hawk on the Naked Mountain label has become a signature logo. The hawks can be seen on their annual north-south migrations as they travel along the Blue Ridge Mountains.
