Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

A feat of complexity, perfumed and profound, the 2006 Mount Veeder Reserve presents layer upon layer of wild mountain berry, plum, and forest floor aromas wrapped in notes of sage, mocha, clove, and bay. Romantic and brooding on the nose, with hints of cassis and violets, this Reserve brings a lush, bold mouthfeel with further notes of vanilla and dark chocolate on the palate. The full-bodied, integrated tannins lend robust structure that extends into a lengthy, infinitely expressive finish.

Blend: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc

Critical Acclaim

"A big, big wine, showing hard mountain tannins and extraordinary concentration of fruit. Made from a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend of the five classic Bordeaux varieties, it's massive in blackberry, cherry, creme de cassis, mineral and smoky oak flavors that finish dry and long. A serious cellar contender, it should start to come into its own after 2014."

Stunning depth and rich, clean finish. This was a real surprise. While the Veeder cabs are always good, this is a step above. Wish we had purchased more when it was available.

Thick and mouth coating this Bordeaux style blend is full of black fruit flavors, Eucalyptus and smoke. Round and plush it's approachable now but the finish lingers with soft silky tannins showing its ability to age for years.

Enjoyable but just above average. I expected much more from this wine. Very tannic on first pour. nice nose but fades after 3rd pour on third day. Didn't hold up so well over 5 days under vacuum. best consumed and decanted in one pouring. Needs some air. I wouldn't buy this vintage again at this price.. I will be tasting the 2007 soon.

The first bad wine I've received from wine.com I unfortunately served this at Christmas. The guests were all wine experts. We all thought it was just dry, no fruit, and bitter. Not like a typical Napa red at all. We dumped it down the drain!!

Learn About Napa Valley

It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...
