A feat of complexity, perfumed and profound, the 2006 Mount Veeder Reserve presents layer upon layer of wild mountain berry, plum, and forest floor aromas wrapped in notes of sage, mocha, clove, and bay. Romantic and brooding on the nose, with hints of cassis and violets, this Reserve brings a lush, bold mouthfeel with further notes of vanilla and dark chocolate on the palate. The full-bodied, integrated tannins lend robust structure that extends into a lengthy, infinitely expressive finish.
Blend: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc

Mount Veeder Winery is a dramatic estate with three vineyards carved high in the hillsides of the Mayacamas Mountains, overlooking southern Napa Valley. The property totals 121 acres, mostly forest and brush, out of which only 47 are planted to vine.
Vines ranging from 1,000–1,600 feet in elevation cling to rugged, steep slopes that offer cool conditions that lead to slow ripening, which extends the growing season. Mount Veeder is usually the last to harvest in Napa Valley. The result is fruit with highly concentrated flavors - big, bold and brambly - a Cab lover's feast.

It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard lands were scooped up and vines were planted throughout the county. A number of wineries emerged, from large conglomerates to small boutiques to cult classics. Cabernet Sauvignon is definitely the grape of choice here, with many winemakers also focusing on Bordeaux Blends. Whites are usually Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Notable FactsWithin the Napa Valley lie smaller sub-AVAs that lend even more character specifics to the wines. Furthest south is Carneros, followed by Yountville, Oakville & Rutherford. Above those two is St.-Helena and finally, just grated an AVA, Calistoga. These areas are situated on the valley floor and are known for creating rich, smooth Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. There are a few mountain regions as well, nestled on the slopes overlooking the valley AVAs. Those include Howell Mountain, Stags Leap and Mount Veeder. Wines from the mountain regions are often more structured and firm, benefiting from more time in the bottle to evolve and soften.

Enjoyable but just above average. I expected much more from this wine. Very tannic on first pour. nice nose but fades after 3rd pour on third day. Didn't hold up so well over 5 days under vacuum. best consumed and decanted in one pouring. Needs some air. I wouldn't buy this vintage again at this price.. Thick and mouth coating this Bordeaux style blend is full of black fruit flavors, Eucalyptus and smoke. Round and plush it's approachable now but the finish lingers with soft silky tannins showing its ability to age for years.11/3/2012The first bad wine I've received from wine.com I unfortunately served this at Christmas. The guests were all wine experts. We all thought it was just dry, no fruit, and bitter. Not like a typical Napa red at all. We dumped it down the drain!!
