In world terms Cape Town is young, a mere three and a half centuries into its life, but it is the oldest city in Southern Africa.
The Cape winelands, located mainly in the Western Cape Province of South Africa are centered around the town of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek in the `Boland' (meaning `upper land').
Boland vineyard is located in Northern Paarl some 37 miles from Cape Town and the world famous Table Mountain.
Boland Kelder pressed its first grapes, 3 000 tons, in 1948. At that stage the cellar consisted of 18 producers. Today they have more than 100 producers annually harvesting approximately 20 000 tons of quality grapes.
At Boland Kelder the vine ultimately determines the quality of the wine and the people guiding this product of nature through the vinification process have constant exposure to what their colleagues in the rest of the world are doing.
The management and farmer-members at Boland vigorously implement a Cultivar Guideline Plan and quality grading system, while the production team continuously monitors winemaking trends and techniques of both Old World and New World wine producing countries.
No connoisseur of Cape wines will argue the fact that Boland Kelder produces one of South Africa's top ranges of commercially available wines at extremely good value for money. Boland Kelder boasts a flagship " Montestell," which competes with the prime quality wines all over the world.
Millions of Rands have been invested to install the latest technology and most effective apparatus. "The high quality grapes cultivated by the producers must be fully utilized to create top quality wines. No stone is left unturned to achieve this, but without interfering with nature".
The wine must be a fine example of its origin and appeal to the wine lover. It is the consumer who will determine success. Besides the numerous international and local accolades the wines of Boland Kelder have received during the past years, the growth in sales of our wines is an indication that the wine consumers have also approved our products," says cellar master Altus le Roux.
The Boland Cellar is not only about wine quality. Wine culture also plays a prominent role. The underground cellar is a huge success with its cozy cultural evenings and wine tastings for wine clubs. In winter convivial get-togethers occur regularly, centering on Bolands winter wines. This cellar boasts a warm and snug atmosphere where people can enjoy socializing while appreciating good food and wine.
Quality is not coincidental, the wines made in Boland's wine cellar in Paarl have during the past seven years constantly received recognition for its quality - accolades from local and international panels abound.
Boland have been awarded for many of their varietals, including their Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadel, Pinotage, Shiraz and Muscadel.
