Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 12.9%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep ruby color with garnet reflections, its elegant bouquet of leather, black cherries, licorice and plums preludes a medium to full-bodied palate where ripe red fruit, gout de terroir, subtle notes of vanilla and violets that harmonize and linger.

Critical Acclaim

"A fruity wine with black cherry, blueberry and hints of pepper. Full and velvety with a long and delicious finish. Acidity is well-integrated with the fruit. One of the best value wines from Tuscany. Screw cap. A blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now. "

Elegant medium-minus bodied wine. Pretty potpourri and rose petals on the nose with a nice sharp mix of sour cranberries, acai, and pomegranate on the palate with a touch of cinnamon sugar to go along with lingering floral elements. Classy stuff; and the price point is wonderful. 91+

Let this one breath a bit before enjoying. At first I was wishing for this wine to have a little more fruit to balance the smokey leather flavors but then the fruit came forward and my impatience put in check. Tart cranberry, deep black cherry and plum. I am happy now :)

Bought with low expectations to match low price. Wine delivered better than priced. Good with food, like pizza, or pasta. Overall thin, not much finish, but decent flavor. Come on Mr. Suckling - "Full and Velvety with a long and delicious finish."? Gotta disagree with you on this one.

A distinctly dry wine with dark currant and blackberry hints with a lingering tannin finish. I didn't get the fruity character others have noted ,....even after decanting for hours. The price is about right for this red.

Black cherries, plum and licorice dominate this Tuscan with overpowering acidity. There are many Tuscans available that are much better for a few dollars more. Was disappointed since it had a 90 rating from Suckling.

I am disappointed. I bought this wine only because Mr. Suckling had rated as 90, but I think it's a bit too acidic on the finish to make a 90 rating.

Terrible. Two-thumbs down. A One-dimensional wine dominated by a nasty over-powering smokiness that is usually associated with scotch whiskey, not wine.
