Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

For my first vintage at Mollydooker, I was amazed at the color of the Shiraz grapes, coming from the Gateway vineyards. The depth and intensity of color in the juice was amazing and I could see why this fruit is used in the Carnival of Love. You will be blown away by the depth and complexity of this wine. It is a big wine yet remains elegant. There are layers of rich cherry and blackberry fruits, creamy vanilla notes, chocolate and even some pepper and spice. It has great intensity and a silkiness that lingers over the palate.

I love sharing this wine with friends, but I can tell you that once a bottle is open, it's hard not to keep it all for myself.

Critical Acclaim

"Sinewy, lithe and expressive, packing red berry, black cherry and cardamom aromas and flavors into a tightly focused package. The finish expands and powers up, driving a long and meaty finish. Displays muscle and poise. Drink now through 2022."
95 Points

"Very deep purple-black in color, the 100% Shiraz, single vineyard 2012 Carnival of Love exudes fragrant notes of warm blackberries, creme de cassis and dried mulberries intermingled with a lovely dried herb undercurrent, lavender, dark chocolate and anise. With a nice structure of medium to firm rounded tannins and a lively acid backbone, this very big, full and rich wine has a very long finish. Drink it now to 2025+."

This wine is just flat-out delicious. If you like shiraz, do yourself a favor and pick up a bottle (or three). Great value and great flavor. If you don't like big, bold, Oz shiraz, what is wrong with you?

Pair with: barbeque, Beef, Pork, alone, Pasta > Meat, Pasta > Tomato-base
Mollydooker has a distinctly bold style. If you don't like a giant, fruit forward wine, try something else, because this is a "best in class" for big chewy Shiraz, second only to their Velvet Glove.
