Michael David Winery 7 Deadly Zins Zinfandel 2007
Zinfandel from California
A sinful blend indeed! Our flagship Zinfandel was devised by the two Phillips brothers in their search for a blended Zin so captivating that no one could refuse. With consistency in mind, the brothers decided to blend the fruit of Lodi's finest growers to fill the bottles of Michael David's new-fangled wine. In the end, Seven vineyards were chosen for their superiority. Now, how do you label a wine so unique in style? Looking to their past, the two Phillips brothers quickly related the Seven Sins from their Catholic school upbringing to the seven Old Vine Zinfandels blended in their wine.
Notes of sweet plums and pepper dominate the nose, while flavors of blueberry, raspberry, cinnamon, and black pepper pack the palate from start to finish. The silky-smooth tannins hold the wine together and deliver a soft, fruit driven experience.
Our 7 Deadly pairs sinfully well with BBQ'd Salmon, prime rib or grilled veggies. Get crazy with delectable dark chocolate desserts!
The Wine Advocate - "The 2007 7 Deadly Zins is a knock-out bargain. Aged completely in American oak, it is loaded with berry fruit, pepper, spice, and earth characteristics. This rich, full-bodied, opulent, luscious Zinfandel can be drunk now and over the next several years. "
Michael David Winery
Michael and David Phillips represent the fifth generation of growers in Lodi, and things are changing. With 500 acres of premium wine grapes, there is plenty of room for experimentation and innovation.
The vineyards are irrigated by the Mokelumne River, which carries crystal-clear water from the Sierra Nevada Mountains, depositing minerals into the rich soils upon which the grapes thrive. Though not certified organic, Michael~David Winery strives to use all natural methods including integrated pest management, beneficial insects for pest control, trellising, leaf pulling and natural mined sulfur for mildew control. We are six generations of winegrowers specializing in hand-crafted Rhone varietals as well as Lodi's famous Old Vine Zinfandels. View all Michael David Winery Wines
About Other California
California has nearly 100 American Viticulture Areas (AVAs) and accounts for almost 90% of wine production in the United States. In our section of Other California, we include wines from smaller AVAs as well as wines from the California AVA. Here are a few smaller AVAs you may see on the label:
Livermore Valley AVA, located right outside of San Francisco and home to wineries such as Wente.
Lodi County AVA, an AVA further east of San Francisco and known for its excellent, old-vine Zinfandels.
San Francisco Bay AVA, a sprawling AVA that covers Contra Costa, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties, to name a few. Wine that holds only the California AVA is typically a wine that includes grapes from a number of different AVAs, which leads to the general labeling of the wine as California. This does not denote the quality of the wine, only the diversity of where the grapes originate.
About CaliforniaIt's not rare to see a wine's country of origin listed as "California." A country into itself in the wine world, California makes enough varieties and styles to match many European wine countries. It produces a diverse range of wines that span the quality spectrum.
The most famous of the California wine regions is Napa Valley, and these wines are certainly outstanding – but it's not as broad and diverse as its larger neighbor, Sonoma County. Down south, Santa Barbara's Santa Maria Valley is well-known for its Rhône blends, as well as cool-climate varieties like Pinot and Chardonnay. The Central Coast, the largest California AVA, has many different microclimates that lead to a wide range of wines with many sub-AVAs.

This is an excellent Zin for the price. The color is a beautiful deep cherry red; I got dark cherry, oak and red licorice on the nose; Earthy, with berries, vanilla, cherry pie and oaky spice on the palate; The Finish was long and warm, full of cherries and cassis. I had this with Thanksgiving Dinner and it was a hit with everyone. A nice solid Zinfandel at a very affordable price.Johnnygofast - Kansas City, MO35/31/201035/17/2011emsact - Aurora, IL34/5/201144/16/2010This is relatively easy to drink with big flavors. A bit on the sweet side but nothing over the hill. Key to good tasting is to let the wine breath. Let it breathe at least 30 minutes after decanting or just use one of the aerators if you can't finish the whole bottle. This is one of the wine that improves alot when decanted.David Robinson - Spokane, WA45/7/2010Great zin for the price! Michael and David make fantastic wines and if you enjoy this try the Earthquake Zin from them, it is one of my favs... You can drink this anytime with nothing if you prefer, jammy, spicy, not too peppery, and great fruit forward wine.59/10/2010Everybody loves the 7 Deadly Zins!41/1/2010.43/30/2010Have had this several times now and I am consistently pleased with it. I buy this wine for a daily wine for dinner.511/8/2009My sister and I tried this while we were in Lodi and we both think it's one of the best Zins we've ever had. Fruity, full-bodied with smokey overtones. Delicious with Italian food.kmp - Acampo, CA53/18/2010thank you to the tasting panel here at wine.com and the loyal consumers who are enjoying this product. your support allows our family business to continue to purchase superior grapes from the hard working farmers in lodi. most people dont know that lodi is the largest wine appellation in the united states yet more than 90% of the grapes are purchased by the big 5 wine companies. your support allows more farmers to continue growing quality based fruit at sustainable prices and gives them more options for selling their product profitably and continuing their farming heritage into the next generations. thank you.51/11/2010This wine has become my tried and true favorite. My only complaint is that it's hard to find regionally, thankfully I can order it here and be assured to always have at least one bottle in the house. I've never had a single complaint from anyone I've given a glass of this to - even non-wine drinkers.Related Products

Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
