Winemaker's Notes

Maycas Reserva Especial Syrah is an intense ruby red with purple hues. Lush aromas of blueberry and blackberry mix harmoniously with hints of black pepper and toast. Full-bodied and smooth with dense black fruit flavors that highlight the overall elegance.

Critical Acclaim

"For a first vintage out of northerly Limarí Valley, this Concha y Toro effort from winemaker Marcelo Papa exceeds any reasonable expectations. It’s an exotic, unique version of perfectly ripe, healthy Syrah from a perfect Chilean vintage. It steamrolls with maxed-out wild berry fruit, a saturated feel and backbone. Enjoy now and over the next few years."
92 Points

"The heat of the vintage marks this syrah, more than the cool-climate character of Limarí. Even so, this voluptuous and chocolatey red seduces with its roundness and generosity of ripe flavors."

Learn About Chile

(CHEE-lay) Long and thin, Chile has a lot of land north to south. The wine region here is a series of districts based near Santiago. The vineyards are protected by the Pacific on the west and the Andes mountains on the east. This could help explain why the climate changes more from east to west than north to south - also why the country has remained phylloxera free....

Learn About Syrah/Shiraz

(seh-RAH/shee-RAHZ) It's a Smokin' Grape Syrah and Shiraz - same grape, different name. It's a popular and adept variety, growing in multiple regions and creating many different styles of wine. The home base of Syrah is the Northern Rhone, where it creates the exclusive wines of Hermitage and Cote Rotie. On the less pricy side, the Rhone makes Syrah-based wines in Crozes...
