Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Layers of sweet dark cherries, tobacco and spices with sublime integration of oak, lively acidity and great overall balance.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2005 Roero Riserva Roche d’Ampsej is another beautiful vivid wine from Correggia. Sweet plums, cherries, tobacco, leather, menthol and French oak emerge from this layered, feminine Nebbiolo. Here the oak is perhaps a touch noticeable in the slightly dry tannins, but the purity of the fruit is nevertheless very attractive."
91 Points

"Dark red with a hint of amber. Wonderfully scented nose combines candied red cherry, rose petal and minerals. Medium-bodied and finely textured, offering vibrant red cherry and mineral flavors. Bright acids give this a very fresh mouthfeel. Finishes smooth and long."

With the help of Giorgio Rivetti (of the famous La Spinetta...

Learn About Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo(neh-bee-OH-low) The King of Piedmont Nebbiolo is the key grape in the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
