Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

A dark purple color is followed by complex aromas of jammy blackberries, violets, cassis and freshly ground white pepper. In the mouth, it displays a core of blackberry fruit, with accents of game, mineral and toast. This has well-knit tannins and excellent acidity. Displays tremendous fruit intensity and smooth velvety texture. It has good underlying acidity that provides vibrancy and a spectacularly rich and prolonged finish.

Ideal accompaniment of red meats, lamb, and strong cheeses.

Critical Acclaim

"There are more similarities than differences among the Griñon varietal roster, but a favorite has to be this dense and meaty Syrah. While not the most sauvage or iconoclastic Syrah on the market, it excels with a delicious plum and berry palate and searing intensity. It's all fruit and power, but in that style it's quite something."
93 Points

"The 2004 Syrah reveals aromas of smoked meat, lavender, and blueberry. Dense and layered, it will benefit from 2-3 years of additional cellaring and provide pleasure through 2019."

Decent Syrah. I was expecting a more complex wine from a Marques 2004. I am going to put the rest in the cellar and try again in a few years.
