Winemaker's Notes

Bright, dark ruby color. An attractive, intense bouquet of raspberries and cherries with vanilla notes and a touch of spice. Nice, refreshingly ripe fruit in the mouth with delicious tannins that confer good body and complexity. Rich and pleasant tasting, its smooth texture charms the palate with long-lasting flavors. An elegant wine that reflects the superb quality of the 2009 vintage.

A perfect accompaniment to Mediterranean cuisine, fried food, grilled vegetables, paella and other rice dishes, rice, fish in tomato sauce, ham chorizo, pate, beef (roast, stewed or grilled) and cheese (mild or medium matured).

Blend: 85% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha

Critical Acclaim

"This sleek red offers harmonious flavors of black cherry, light toast, mineral and herbs, supported by well-integrated tannins that give way to a fresh finish."

Wish I could do half stars, I'd give this a 3.5 rating but seeing as how I can't, I'll err on the plus side and give it a 4. This is a wine that needs to be served with a traditional Spanish meal such as grilled pork cutlets, red bean chorizo bacon stew or pork in a rich tomato sauce. Maybe even with tapas. Don't drink it by its self.

Style: Big & Bold
It's very heavy, it seems styled for the American market, very tannic.

Style: Earth & Spicy
It is somewhat dry but not overly so. It is also fruity (although I can't identify any specific fruit flavors) and smooth, with medium-to-full body. Not a great wine, but a very drinkable one. Maybe it will improve in a couple of years.

Learn About Rioja

(ree-OH-hah) This highly regarded area of Spain makes some of the best Tempranillo-based wines in the world. Once the only DOCa (recently joined by Priorat in 2001), Rioja is divided into 3 sub-regions: Rioja Baja, Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa. There are 4 red varieties and 3 white varieties allowed in the Rioja DOC. Tempranillo definitely takes center stage, followed by Garnacha...
