Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Garnet-red in color with ruby shades. An intense nose with clean scents of spices, vanilla, roasted hazelnuts, liquorices, cacao and wild rose. A full, elegant flavor, austere and good-bodied, with recurring olfactory sensations. The hints of spices and of wood blend perfectly.

Thanks to its big structure, this wine pairs exceptionally well with main courses of red meats, braised dishes and game in general. An ideal accompaniment for cheeses.

Critical Acclaim

"scular, with cherry, plum, licorice and spice flavors, this red is nonetheless smooth and intense, without being heavy or extracted. Ends with a leather and tobacco finish. Best from 2015 through 2032. 5,000 cases made."

It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
