Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Classic pale straw in color, with profound aromas of honey, lime oil, and custard, with hints of whole-wheat toast and wet stone. In the mouth it is lush with ripe tropical fruit and manages to be very rich yet light at the same time, almost like drinking a Meyer lemon soufflé. The finish is quite clean but lingers for several minutes.

Critical Acclaim

"Structure marks this fine wine, made from MacRostie’s signature vineyard. Although you’ll find a wealth of pineapples, Fuji apples and ripe pears, it has a minerality that makes it firm, and a clean, acidic finish. Elegant and classy, and could age for six years."

This is a big opulent chard. Barrel fermented without going over the top. It is well balanced with vanillan from the oak and pure chard flavors typical of the Carneros region. To my tastes a superb wine capable of cellaring for several more years.

Yum. MacRostie never seems to steer me wrong with their wines and this chardonnay is no exception.

The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...
