Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Full-bodied and complex, the Louis M. Martini 2009 Lot 1 Cabernet Sauvignon captures the essence of Napa Valley's distinctive terroir. The opulent ruby color alludes to the deep, intense dark fruit flavors of blackberry and plum. Rich aromas and flavors of black cherry and cassis are framed by toasted sweet oak notes and hints of chocolate and brown spice. Velvety, plush tannins give this wine a full, luxurious mouthfeel and a long, elegant finish of concentrated fruit and spice.
"Martini goes big with this flashy, splashy, small-production Cabernet. Made in the modern cult style, it’s soft as velvet, with ultrarefined tannins and a brisk hit of acidity for balance, plus flavors of blackberries, black currants and dark chocolate."
"Deep layers of mocha, mineral-infused black fruits, minerals, crushed flowers and incense emerge from the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 1. A large-scaled, exciting wine, the 2009 impresses for its overall balance and sheer personality. This is a decidedly large scaled, voluptuous Cabernet Sauvignon endowed with exceptional balance throughout. Lot 1 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from an assortment of sites, mostly in Stags’ Leap, Pritchard Hill and Oakville. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029."
Vinous / Antonio Galloni
"Pure Napa, offering a mix of spice, herb, dried currant and berry and light oak shadings. Both elegant and detailed, with a long, deep, persistent finish."
