Louis Bernard Vacqueryas Domaine de Montbayon 2010
Rhone Red Blends from Vacqueyras, Rhone, France
Generous tannins, excellent balance and elegance are the main characteristics of the red wines of Vacqueyras, along with intense dark fruit aromas (plum, black-and blueberry). The colors are intense and the grape varieties express themselves perfectly. 2010 is a vintage brimming with elegance and roundness.
Wine Spectator - "This has a dark, succulent profile, with lots of mixed berry, plum sauce and fig paste notes laced with licorice root and ganache, all carried by well-embedded acidity. Shows nice grip and purity through the finish."
Vinous / Antonio Galloni - "Dark purple. Expressive aromas of black raspberry and candied cherry. Lush and open-knit, with good depth and a touch of warmth to its dark fruit compote flavors. The cherry note recurs on the finish, which features supple tannins and lingering spiciness.

La Chartreuse de Bonpas is a medieval fortified convent located near Avignon in the Provence region of France, on the Durance River. According to legend, the area was originally called "Maupas" (bad passage) because it was dominated by dangerous bandits. In the 12th century, a holy man named Sibertius arrived with soldiers, built a convent, and chased away the evil bandits. Thus, the name was changed from "Maupas" to "Bonpas" (good passage) and became known as a safe haven allowing travelers a secure crossing of the Durance River .
Today, this historic monument is surrounded by 45 acres of A.O.C. Cotes du Rhone vineyards and is home to Louis Bernard. Visitors can tour the chapel, stroll in the beautiful French-style gardens, and enjoy wine tasting in the ancient cellar. View all Louis Bernard Wines
About VacqueyrasView a map of Vacqueyras wineries (vah-keh-rahs) Once just a Cotes-du-Rhone village, the wine of Vacqueyras made its mark and in 1990, gaining its own appellation. The wine is somewhat similar to its northern neighbor, Gigondas, and occasionally even more rustic. Vacqueyras wine gives off the flavors of the earth where the vines grow - wild herbs, spice and rocky soil.
Notable FactsLike other Southern Rhone wine, Grenache is the main player here, and a minimum of 50% of the varietal is required, allowing the blend more room for varietals like Syrah and Mourvedre. Often found for good value prices, these wines are perfect for hearty meat stews and herb-based dishes.
About France - Other regionsWhen it comes to wine, France is a classic. Classic blends, grapes and styles began in the country and they still remain. Think about it - people ask for a Burgundian style Pinot Noir, they refer to wines as Bordeaux or Rhone blends - Champagne even had to pass a law to stop international wineries from putting their region on the label of all sparkling wine.

Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
