Winemaker's Notes

Deep ruby red color with light shades of brick. Bouquet of ripe red fruit such as plums, cherries and raspberries which blend with light notes of liqueur. Maturing in French oak barrels from the Tonnellerie de DBR (Lafite) cooperage gives the wine pleasant toasted notes which are well-integrated with flavors of black olives, black pepper, chocolate brownie, walnuts and chestnuts, all underscored with a hint of fresh figs, tobacco and cedar.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with good structure, volume, and tannins which combine to offer a wine of outstanding elegance, balance and personality

Critical Acclaim

"So subtle and refined with currants, roses and cedar. Full body, yet very elegant and attractively austere. It goes on for a minute or two. Such beauty. 85% cabernet sauvignon, 10% carmenere, and 5% syrah. 18 months in barrel mostly new oak. Drink or hold."
94 Points

"The 2011 Le Dix Cabernet Sauvignon is a textbook Cabernet Sauvignon, very classical, with the typical descriptors of the variety framed by some oak and a medium-bodied palate, perhaps lacking a bit in the mid-palate a little austere, but with good balance and acidity to evolve nicely in the bottle."

Los Vascos traces its roots to approximately 1750 and to the original vineyard of Miguel Echenique. The vineyard passed down through the family throughout the succeeding centuries. The acquisition of 50% of Los Vascos by Rothschild (Lafite) in 1988 was the result of a careful search among more than one hundred Chilean wines for one that could meet their criteria for excellence. A...

Learn About Chile

(CHEE-lay) Long and thin, Chile has a lot of land north to south. The wine region here is a series of districts based near Santiago. The vineyards are protected by the Pacific on the west and the Andes mountains on the east. This could help explain why the climate changes more from east to west than north to south - also why the country has remained phylloxera free....

Learn About Cabernet Sauvignon

(cab-uhr-NAY sow-veeh-yawn) King of Red Many refer to Cabernet Sauvignon as the king of red grapes. Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
