Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.2%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Los Dos is bright ruby-red with violet hues and has pleasantly intense and complex aromas of subtle black cherry fruit and balsam. A full, well-structured, silky mouthfeel and lingering finish.

This wine pairs well with grilled steaks, pizza, lasagne, roast leg of lamb or stuffed piquillo peppers.

Blend: 85% Garnacha, 15% Syrah

Critical Acclaim

"Almira's 2010 Los Dos is a blend of 85% Garnacha and 15% Syrah fermented and aged in tank. Blue and black fruits, pepper, and incense inform the nose of this savory, layered red. It is a very good value meant for drinking over the next 3-4 years."

Learn About Los Dos

Red wines predominate in the DO of Campo de Borja, with Garnacha playing a leading role. Syrah, however, is not often seen in this part of Spain. The third largest country in production, Spain ranks first in land under vine. Diversity and innovation are the key factors bringing Spain back into the world wine market. The most popular red varieties of Spain include Tempranillo and Garnacha (Grenache). Whites don't garner quite as much recognition, but there are some regional varieties not to be missed, like Albarino...

Learn About Grenache

Grenache (greh-NAASH) Sun-Worshiper This sun-worshiping grape gets ripe and loves hot, dry weather. Popular in Spain (called Garnacha), Australia and the southern Rhone region of France, Grenache is the primary grape in regions such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Tavel, and Priorat. It's often tamed by less fleshy, more structured grapes like Syrah...
