Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

The 2004 Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon offers upfront aromas of ripe blackberry, chocolate and cassis, with hints of vanillin. Similar deep berry flavors are enhanced by elegant tannins and a rich, full finish. A diversity of porous soils and microclimates among our various vineyards contributes to excellent depth and complexity of flavors in the glass. The wine's fruit-driven, approachable style lends ease to food-pairing; a good choice for grilled, braised or roasted meats, Mediterranean fare and semiaged cheeses.

Liberty School, California
Liberty School Liberty School Tasting Cellar Winery Image
Varietally on target, reliable year after year, Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cuvee consistently over-deliver value wines of outstanding quality. The Hope family has been making Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon since 1990. In 1996, when the Hopes established Treana Winery, the Liberty School brand officially became part of Hope Family Wines. Liberty School wines are made in a traditional style. Fruit driven, they are crafted to reflect true varietal character. The wines are barrel-aged, employing very little new oak. Oak is used as a building component rather than a flavoring agent.

A big brand, made by a small, close family, Liberty School is the home of delicious wines that are easy to enjoy.

Covering the most vine acreage in the state compared to any other red wine variety, Cabernet Sauvignon produces as much wine in California as Merlot and Pinot Noir combined. The state’s diverse terrain and microclimates, as well as the freedom of its winemakers, allow for an incredible range of wine styles from this single grape.

California’s most famous region—and especially for Cabernet Sauvignon—is the acclaimed Napa Valley. While Cabernet is successful throughout the world, rarely has it achieved such merit as it does from the Napa Valley. At this point the two are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other.

Napa’s closest neighbor, Sonoma County, does an impressive job keeping up with Napa’s fame and glory. Alexander Valley, Sonoma Mountain, Moon Mountain and Knights Valley contribute to the lot of some of California’s top-rated Cabernet Sauvignon.

Lake County in California’s North Coast has become a focus for some of Napa’s more respected growers. From the Central Coast come iconic examples of classic California Cabernet; Lodi and the Sierra Foothills are great budget-friendly sources of amicable Cabernets.
