Winemaker's Notes

A deep red wine with a beautifully integrated nose of black fruits, vanillin and anise with toasted oak notes. This wine is very soft in the mouth but backed up with nice structure. A very rich wine, it has a finish that seems to go on for minutes. A classic Leonetti Merlot with good aging potential.

Merlot 89.6%, Cabernet Franc 6.6%, Petit Verdot 2.6%, Cabernet Sauvignon 1.2%

Critical Acclaim

"Dense in texture and distinctive in flavor, with floral, spicy, peppery notes swirling around the black cherry flavor at the core. Has more fruit and less obvious oak than previous vintages; as a result it feels a bit raucous now, but there's plenty of character packed into it. Best after 1999."

But passionate Merlot producers, and of course the right bank of Bordeaux, continued to produce quality versions of this grape. Merlot remains the principle grape of top chateaux in St...
