Winemaker's Notes

A blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec.

Dense, saturated color. The initial nose is blueberry compote, blackberries and a whiff of pine resin and sawdust behind the classic Cabernet note of cassis. As I taste an open bottle over several days, the wine changes dramatically, with additional layers of armoas, including tobacco, more black fruits and vanilla revealing themselves. I'm always pleased when a wine does this, as it's a wonderful harbinger that it will continue to gain complexity in bottle for years to come. The palate of this Cab is just gorgeous, with a lush, mouth-coating texture. The tannin content is high, but they are very ripe, fine-grained and long. The wine finishes with an endless glycerin sweetness in which Leonetti wines are known.

Critical Acclaim

"Good deep, bright ruby. Primary aromas of cassis, licorice, bitter chocolate, brown spices and menthol. The palate offers a compelling combination of pliancy and underlying structure, giving this very rich, deep wine a harmoniousness from the outset. The wine's lovely sweetness is leavened by healthy acidity, and the finish is very long and classically dry, with terrific definition and lift. Really spreads out to saturate the palate. A great showing, but delay your gratification because there will be more fireworks down the road."
94 Points

"Firm and chewy, bristling with tannins. There's a licorice and pepper overlay to the dark berry and mint flavors, lingering on the solidly framed finish. Best from 2012 through 2016. "

Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
