Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Made from 100% Verdeca, an ancient Greek varietal that produces wines that are crisp, refreshing and floral. This wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel to retain the fresh character of the grape.

Straw yellow in color, with light green highlights, this wine offers aromas of citrus fruits along with a hint of wildflowers. On the palate, the wine is fresh, mouthwatering and persistent. Recommended with fresh cheese and seafood dishes.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2009 Verdeca Bianco Messapia is one of the finest wines I have tasted from Puglia. Bright citrus, lime peel and flowers come together beautifully in this rich, textured white. The balance here is simply beautiful. Verdeca, thought to be of Greek origin, is one of the many ancient varieties that are being rediscovered in southern Italy. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014."
