The nose is vibrant and concentrated with aromas of pear, hand picked peach and lime. Beneath lie layers of lemon curd and fig. Lifted frangipani, subtle cinnamon and peanut brittle provide further complexity. The palate is delicately textured with pear, ruby grapefruit and white peach. Hints of wild honey and cashew add complexity to a palate which exudes balanced weight and persistent length. An excellent vintage of Prelude Vineyards Chardonnay from Leeuwin Estate.

The Wine Advocate - "From estate vineyards, the 2009 Prelude Vineyards Chardonnay was barrel fermented in French barriques and aged for 9 months on lees. The nose is ripe and intense, revealing notes of pink guava, melon and pineapple over cedar, preserved ginger and a whiff of mandarin peel. Full bodied, the concentrated layers of tropical flavors are nicely offset by refreshing acidity, and it has a pleasantly creamy texture. It finishes long and toasty."

After an extensive search in 1972 to identify the most suitable Australian area for the production of premium varietal wines, Robert Mondavi singled out a small plot of land in the Margaret River region. At the time a cattle farm, Leeuwin Esate evolved under the direction of owners Denis and Tricia Horgan, with Mondavi acting as a consultant and mentor. The initial vineyards were planted by hand over a five year period from 1975, with the state-of-the-art winery opened in 1978. In 1979, Leeuwin Estate had their first commercial vintage. Today, Leeuwin Estate maintains a team of highly-skilled and dedicated winemakers, under the direction of two generations of the founding family, exporting to over 30 countries.
