Winemaker's Notes:

"The blockbuster 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Art Series (86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petit Verdot, and 3% Malbec) exhibits a Chateau Margaux-like precision. There is terrific purity, finesse, and length as well as medium to full body and intensely layered flavors nicely buttressed by acidity and tannin. As the wine sits in the glass, aromas of cedar, licorice, blackberries, and currants emerge. This sensational Australian red requires 2-3 years of cellaring; it should age for two decades."
-Wine Advocate

The color is bright deep garnet with a little youthful purple around the edges. The bouquet is composed of fragrant aromas of sweet currant fruit carried and lifted by a cedary oak underpinning but not over shadowing it. Again currants are predominant on the palate with warm flavours of fine to medium texture. It fans out to a rich and quite voluminously fruity finish backed by gentle tannins.

My Notes:

About Leeuwin Estate:

After an extensive search in 1972 to identify the most suitable Australian area for the production of premium varietal wines, Robert Mondavi singled out a small plot of land in the Margaret River region. At the time a cattle farm, Leeuwin Esate evolved under the direction of owners Denis and Tricia Horgan, with Mondavi acting as a consultant and mentor. The initial vineyards were planted by hand over a five year period from 1975, with the state-of-the-art winery opened in 1978. In 1979, Leeuwin Estate had their first commercial vintage. Today, Leeuwin Estate maintains a team of highly-skilled and dedicated winemakers, under the direction of two generations of the founding family, exporting to over 30 countries.
