Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Intense purple inky color. Expressive aromas of ripe red fruit with delicate hints of sweet spices. Cedar and tea leaf at the finish. Fresh attack and a medium body. Finishes with very juicy tannins. The ideal companion for pastas, pork and grilled red meat.

Critical Acclaim

"Firm, toasty aromas blend well with cherry and plum notes. The palate is healthy in feel, with good depth and balance. Tastes lightly herbal, but the heavy lifting is handled by black fruit and chocolate flavors. Peppery on the finish and very solid as a whole."

Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
