Langtry Estate Serpentine Meadow Petite Sirah 2005
Petite Sirah from North Coast, California
This Estate wine is created from our premier Petite Sirah blocks growing in restrictive Serpentine soils of the Guenoc Valley. The 2005 Langtry Estate Petite Sirah has a complex mix of aromas; cedar, black pepper, plum and blackberry cobbler. On the palate, this Petite Sirah is big and mouth-filling with a mix of soft and chewy tannins. The finish has incredible length full of pomegranate, vanilla and blueberry. Pair with grilled lamb, game and hearty meat stews.
Wine Enthusiast - "This is a gorgeous young Petite Sirah. Most people will probably drink it soon, because although it’s tannic, it’s tremendously ripe in blackberries, cherries, chocolate and sweet oak, making it irresistibly delicious. But it should be drinkable for a very long time, slowly changing its profile and becoming ever more delicate. "
Langtry Estate & Vineyards
For well over one hundred years, intrepid travelers have trekked over Howell Mountain to reach our Guenoc Valley winery. Langtry Estate & Vineyards property is vast, encompassing some thirty-five square miles of epic terrain, where untamed flora and fauna still abound.
The picturesque estate consists of 21,349 acres and straddles both Lake and Napa Counties where cougar, bear and wild boar still roam the remote hills. Despite the vastness, Langtry's vineyards are limited to 400 prime acres, ensuring the highest quality.
Langtry Estate & Vineyards currently produces approximately 120,000 cases of wine annually with distribution throughout the United States. From cane to canopy, to rootstock and clone, Langtry Estate believes that the signature of the wine remains in the soil and climate and in varietals chosen for their synergy with the land.
While Langtry has enjoyed significant critical success, the winery has emerged as one of the top producers of two of the hottest varietal wines on the market today, Petite Sirah and Sauvignon Blanc. Each year, Langtry ranks among the top medal winning wineries at professional wine competitions, and the winery's Petite Sirah has won more gold medals and best of show awards than any other Petite Sirah in the world. About North CoastView a map of North Coast wineries
Beyond Napa and Sonoma in the north you find a couple of other counties producing great wine. Among these are Mendocino and Lake County. The northernmost California winegrowing regions, these two counties are right above Napa and Sonoma, geographically. Yet, wine-wise they are very different – both from their southern neighbors and from each other.
Notable FactsMendocino has a high amount of organic vintners and vines. The first winery to settle here was Fetzer, which practices organic viticulture and holds some of the most vineyard land in the area. Mendocino has many pockets of micro-climates while Lake County, being smaller in size, is less diverse climactically. As for the grapes, Chardonnay is the most popular in both counties, but there are also some excellent Sauvignon Blancs, particularly in the Lake County. In red wine, Zinfandel leads the way, followed by Rhone Blends and Petite Sirah. The reds in both counties are complex and sumptuous. Anderson Valley is a sub-AVA of Mendicino and is quite well known for its excellent cool climate, producing the delicious Roederer Estate sparkling wines and some wonderful cool-climate Syrah.
About CaliforniaIt's not rare to see a wine's country of origin listed as "California." A country into itself in the wine world, California makes enough varieties and styles to match many European wine countries. It produces a diverse range of wines that span the quality spectrum.
