Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Like its namesake, Lillie Sauvignon Blanc is unique. located west of the Langtry House, the five acre vineyard is unlike most Sauvignon Blanc plantings. Its restrictive, shallow, magnesium-laced soils produce small vines, leaves and berries, and thus, modest yields for a vigorous variety. The fruit is concentrated and very complex.

Partially barrel fermented, in neutral barrels, the 2008 Langtry "Lillie Vineyard" Sauvignon Blanc is made in our signature style. The vines from the small 5 acre lot, that is farmed organically, bring forth an expressive wine with abundant: grapefruit, guava, pineapple, coconut, and banana flavors. The dramatic tropical fruit and rich textures are balanced by a bright acidity and smooth finish.

Critical Acclaim

"Scents of fresh-cut grass brighten this sauvignon. It feels big, with green grape skin flavors giving it a profile more characteristic of Marlborough styles. Serve it with pot stickers stuffed with pork and vegetables."
