Alcohol By Volume: 14.6%
Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Estate grown, produced and bottled, our 2007 Lancaster Estate Cabernet is intense with dark stone fruit, blackberry, and white pepper with hints of chocolate dust. The red plum and heritage rose aromas compliment finely textured tannins while the earthy finish rounds out the toast and complexity.
Blend: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Malbec
9% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot
"The Lancaster estate vineyard rises out of the southeastern corner of Alexander Valley, on the hills that lead up toward Knights Valley. Planted to Bordeaux varieties, it's managed by Phil Freese; Jesse Katz makes the wine with an assist from David Ramey. Their 2007 cabernet gets better and better the longer you sit with it in the glass. It starts off stony and tough, with purple fruit and coal black tannins. There's juiciness in the tannin, with the textural give of a chewy black mushroom, as the firm fruit slowly comes into focus. This will benefit from five or six years in the cellar.
Wine & Spirits
"The soft, silky quality of the tannins, fine acidity, and elaborate black cherry, currant, herb, anise and oak flavors make this elegant young wine fully ready to drink now, with equally fine food. Give it a few hours of decanting."
"The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (80% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest other Bordeaux varietals) possesses sweet black raspberry and black currant fruit intermixed with notions of damp earth, tar, and spring flowers. Rich and full-bodied with ripe, supple tannins, and a long finish, it should age easily for 15+ years."

But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...

Learn About Cabernet Sauvignon
(cab-uhr-NAY sow-veeh-yawn) King of Red Many refer to Cabernet Sauvignon as the king of red grapes. Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
