This elegant and fruity wine comes from vines grown high on the slopes of the Luberon Mountains, one of the Rhone Valley's coolest vineyards.
The blend of Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Ugni Blanc and Rousanne grapes has produced a typical Rhone Valley white that is soft, balanced and deliciously aromatic.
International Wine Cellar - "Pale yellow. Lemon, green apple and mint on the high-pitched nose. Dry and wiry, with good clarity to its citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Finishes with moderate length and refreshing bite. On the simple side but there's a lot of clean, juicy fruit here, and you can't deny the bang for the buck, especially in magnum. This would be an outstanding glass pour or carafe wine at a restaurant."
La Vieille Ferme Winery
Jean Pierre Perrin established La Vieille Ferme over 35 years ago, when he chose to produce an inexpensive, straightforward Rhône wine to sell by direct mail to French wine lovers. He used the same grape varieties in similar proportions to those planted at the family's Château de Beaucastel, in a similar vinification process. The result was an immediate success in France, a wine of character and style in keeping with its Beaucastel heritage.
Initially, Jean Pierre made only Côtes du Rhône, but steeply rising grape prices in 1976 caused him to switch to Côtes du Ventoux and eventually to produce a white wine from the mountainous Côtes du Luberon. La Vieille Ferme was introduced to the United States in 1970. The response was an immediate, overwhelming acceptance and an outpouring of critical acclaim from eminently knowledgeable critics who recognized La Vieille Ferme for its consistently fine quality and value. Was motivated to try this wine after meeting a work collegue who's family grows grapes for this label. Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer.
