Other White Blends from Argentina, South America
This unique white blend is a sensory revelation. We wondered what it would be like to blend grapes from three high-elevation vineyards from across Argentina from three talented growers, and we were happily surprised. This baby is bright, fresh, and crisp with ripe white peach and floral notes in the nose. Honeydew rind, ripe apple and a hint of crisp lime explode on the palate, quickly followed by a complex and balanced finish. For food partners, we're still pondering what food this wouldn't go with, but for sure it's a wine to keep in the fridge for all occasions between Easter and Halloween.

Wine Enthusiast - "A natural type of blended white with vanilla, powdered sugar, peach, pear and citrus on the bouquet. The palate is fresh and zesty, with apple, citrus and peach flavors, and no oak, resin or toast foisted into the glass. Nicely focused throughout, with a good mouthfeel. Chardonnay with 15% each of Sauvignon Bland and Torrontes."
International Wine Cellar - "Pale color. Orange peel and an oily note on the nose. Spicy and appealing, with sweet soft citrus fruit framed by ripe acidity. Supple and nicely bright wine with a slightly spiky finish."

We have tasted over a thousand wines since we began importing from Argentina. In that time, we have discovered a handful of grape growers whose results in the vineyards with specific varietals have been truly amazing--year in, year out. Our first encounter with many of these growers was at a posta del vinatero, or "tavern of the grape grower." Here they drank wine and spoke passionately for hours about their soils, their vines, and their quest for superior flavors in their grapes. Notable FactsUnlike its Chilean neighbor, Argentina's vineyards are spread out around the country. The best known region is Mendoza, almost parallel to Santiago to the west. Mendoza contains the sub-regions of Maipu (pronounced MY-pu) and San Rafael. Grape-wise, the most important white is Chardonnay, making wine similar to California's style on the variety. Another fun white grape to try is Torrontes. Almost only grown in Argentina, Torrontes makes wines that are crisp, aromatic and easy-drinking. Some of the best versions of this wine come from the northern region of Salta, with very high altitude vineyards. As for the reds, Cabernet Sauvignon is the main grape for many wines leaving the country, but Malbec, the grape Argentinians like to call their own, makes very distinctive wines that are structured, dense and velvety. Many more varieties happily grow in the country, but for export, and consistent quality, these are the primary grapes.

Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
