Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 13.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Vibrant red color with aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and violets wafting from the glass along with notes of toasty oak. On the palate, the fresh berry flavors mingle with spice notes and there's a hint of soft caramel on the finish. This is a creamy, medium-bodied and well-structured wine that is incredibly full of life.

Goes great with everything from hamburgers and chicken to pasta and mild cheeses.

Critical Acclaim

"In a world of superripe malbec, once in a while we come across a wine that emphasizes red fruit and tense acidity—without giving up the weight and structure that would place it with the meats of an Argentine asado. This is a selection of vines planted at end of the 1960s in Mendoza, and 2010 may be the best vintage this site has produced to date."
93 Points

"More serious is the 2010 Malbec Angel Paulucci Vineyard, sourced from 38-year-old vines and aged for 14 months in 25% new French oak. Notions of cedar, Asian spices, incense, floral notes, and black cherry lead to a smooth-textured, elegant, spicy offering that delivers outstanding value..."

A very nice Malbec. Black cherries, raspberries and spices grace the palate. A nice fruity and floral aroma wafts from the glass. Served with hamburger and went over very well.

So very good. An extremely smooth wine with very strong fruity flavors. I love malbec, and this is my favorite malbec. Lucky then for me that it is available at such a reasonable price since I would still buy this at several times what they are asking for it.

Learn About La Posta

We have tasted over a thousand wines since we began importing from Argentina. In that time, we have discovered a handful of grape growers whose results in the vineyards with specific varietals have been truly amazing--year in, year out. Our first encounter with many of these growers was at a posta del vinatero, or tavern of the grape grower. Here they drank wine and spoke...

Learn About Argentina

(ahr-jen-TEE-nah) Now fifth in the world for wine production, Argentina is catching up in the quality wine sector. A long time wine producer, Argentina used to make wine in order to drink it, not export it. And so the wines produced were quaffable and rustic and made for the local's everyday dinner. Yet it's hard not to get caught up in the wine market of the world and some...
