Pinot Noir from California
Wine Style Guide
Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.
Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.
Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.
Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.
Alcohol By Volume: 14.3%
Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Juicy pomegranate, black cherry and lingonberry soften an herbaceous nose with touches of sandalwood. Ripe layers of red cherry and raspberry, with notes of sassafras on the mid-palate. Graceful texture with a bright acidity and bursting with rich concentrated flavor. Berries and cream evoke a velvety finish.
"If at first a bit lighter and hinting of fresh raspberries, cherries and candied violets in the nose, this lovely Pinot proves to be surprisingly juicy and energetically fruity in flavor with lots of depth and a real sense of grace. Its subtle oak is wholly obeisant to fruit, and it is both rich and very lively. It is a fine and vibrant expression of what Russian River Valley Pinot can be, and it affords both delicious drinking now and potential for four or five years of growth."
"Well-built, ripe and layered, with rich plum, wild berry and black cherry fruit that firms nicely midpalate, with touches of herb and cedar. Finishes with a strong medley of berries and tannins. Drink now through 2022."
"Deep ruby. Sexy, highly perfumed scents of fresh red fruits, incense and candied rose, with a touch of star anise in the background. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering sweet raspberry and cherry flavors and a seamless, silky quality. Powerful but lithe pinot with excellent finishing lift and clarity."
