Alcohol By Volume: 13.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Our quality, value-priced red wine is made from grapes sourced from some of California's best known grape growing regions. The 2008 vintage is a perfect everyday drinking wine, full of ripe fruit and spicy character in both the mouth and nose. Gentle tannins and a lively mouthfeel round off this accessible, easy-drinking wine.

The 2008 bottling uses primarily Zinfandel and Petite Sirah to form a complex and delicious blend. Using the cuvée method, the winemakers keep each vineyard lot separate throughout fermentation and aging, thereby preserving the individual flavors of each vineyard. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the components are aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 15 months before blending.

Critical Acclaim

"A great success, as this bottling has been for decades. The wine, which is a blend of Petite Sirah, Merlot and Sangiovese, is dry and rich and balanced, showing lots of finesse in the cherry, currant, licorice, mocha and cedar flavors. Easy to find, with 24,000 cases produced. "

For the price, not bad. Not as smooth as Kenwood's better wines, but goes well with sharp cheeses or beef minestrone, etc

Learn About Sonoma County

But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...
