The 2005 Meritage is a great follow-up to the
delicious 2004 vintage. It has a similar flavor
profile; blackberry, black licorice and rich Bing
cherry. An upfront vanilla sweetness is noticed in the aroma which pulls all these attributes together. The palate has juicy cherry, cassis and coffee tones. The wine finishes with a fullness provided by ripe, rich tannins and a lasting finish full of flavor.
I really enjoyed this wine and wish I had bought more. I don't always follow that old "reds with meat/whites with fish" rule. I had prepared a fish with a spicy tomato olive topping that this complimented well!
Deep red color w/ a rasberry jam aroma. The flavors are, mainly, rich black cherry coolaide over fresh plum. A quite pleasant, though soft, drinker for those that do not prefer Napa Caps but has a bit more structure and acidity than ~ $15 Central Coast Cabs. C10.88.
