Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay 2008
Chardonnay from Sonoma County, California
This Chardonnay bursts with tropical flavors such as mango, papaya and pineapple with citrus notes that explode in your mouth. These flavors delicately intertwine with aromas of green apple and pear to create depth and balance throughout. A hint of toasted oak rounds out the long lingering finish.
The Wine Advocate - "There are over 2 million cases of the 2008 Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay, all 100% barrel-fermented Chardonnay from Jess Jackson’s own estate vineyards. This wine displays plenty of tropical fruit, lemon butter, and citrus in a fresh, lively style, with the wood clearly pushed to the background. Hats off to winemaker Randy Ullom, who has been behind this massive winemaking task for many years. This is another hugely successful wine that can be found discounted in the $10-12 range, and should be drunk over the next year. "
Back in 1974, Jess Jackson saw in the fine vineyards of California's cool coastal regions fruit with a variety of outstanding flavors. What if there was a way to produce from this abundance, a single outstanding "cuvée" that offered both quality and value? The result, first released in 1983, was Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay, a rich, round and flavorful wine, made with hand-crafted methods. That same year, Grand Reserve was introduced, a line of ultra-premium wines that represented the full potential of California's finest vineyards and winemaking. Today, over 5,000 acres of vineyard in California's coastal regions are farmed by Kendall-Jackson. Four separate wineries house what is possibly the single largest barrel-fermentation project in the world. But perhaps most important, is that Kendall-Jackson remains a family-owned winery. About Sonoma CountyView a map of Sonoma County wineriesRelated Links:
Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about half as much wine as its northeasterly neighbor. Because of its vast size, however, Sonoma is able to achieve far more diversity within its borders, which include sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid-back and down-to-earth, but the wines are serious and well-made, ranging in style from subtle and elegant to rich and powerful. Grape varieties are more varied here, from Pinot Noir and Zinfandel to Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
Notable FactsThe largest sub-AVAs of Sonoma include Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley and Sonoma Valley. Each sub-AVA, with its own micro-climate, is unique in its grape varieties and styles of wine. Dry Creek makes a mean Zinfandel while Russian River produces stand up Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Alexander Valley makes some of the better Cabernet Sauvignons in the county and Sonoma Valley creates excellent wines from all the above varieties. Other grapes found throughout Sonoma include Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Syrah.
About CaliforniaIt's not rare to see a wine's country of origin listed as "California." A country into itself in the wine world, California makes enough varieties and styles to match many European wine countries. It produces a diverse range of wines that span the quality spectrum.
The most famous of the California wine regions is Napa Valley, and these wines are certainly outstanding – but it's not as broad and diverse as its larger neighbor, Sonoma County. Down south, Santa Barbara's Santa Maria Valley is well-known for its Rhône blends, as well as cool-climate varieties like Pinot and Chardonnay. The Central Coast, the largest California AVA, has many different microclimates that lead to a wide range of wines with many sub-AVAs.

9 ratings, 8 with reviewsRed w/Attitude - Miami, FL17/1/2011tenacean - Jefferson, MD412/5/2010This wine is popular because it's truly a smooth and fruity style that suits what many U.S. consumers want out of a white wine...we want it tasty, fruit forward, and uncomplicated by oak. For years, Kendall-Jackson knows how to hit that 'sweet' spot and they've done so here. I'd give the wine a rock solid 87 as there's nothing off putting but it's straight forward 'fast food' Chard...and there's nothing wrong with that! Buy and enjoy.52/13/2010I love the crisp pear and mango flavors and smells in this chardonnay. Kendall-Jackson always produces the best chardonnays.
