Winemaker's Notes

"Elegant and tropical with hints of lemon oil essence, key lime and yellow grapefruit. Notes of ripe pineapple and mango can be found throughout this exquisitely balanced Chardonnay. Lushly layered and viscous with a firm acidity and enchanting creamy texture. The finish lingers on and on."
- Randy Ullom, Winemaster

Best mid-priced Chardonnay for the value we have found. Clean and crisp with a significant mouthfeel, and a smooth buttery finish. Our table Chardonnay with dinner guests -sure to please.

Judging from the positive reviews of the 2005 vintage, the 2006 is a step down. I purchased my bottle at Safeway for $17.99. It was extremely lemony, bitter on the finish, and did not improve with the 2nd glass. The back of the bottle advertises its French oak heritage -- mostly absent in the first glass and gone in the 2nd. There is no butterscotch or buttery flavor. For a reference, try St. Supery. I see the winemaker's notes on wine.com differ from the notes on the back of the bottle, which I read at the point of sale, so I suspect the marketing folks at K-J are not in touch with the winemaker's pronouncements. In this price range, there are more balanced chardonnays to be had.

What if there was a way to produce from this abundance, a single outstanding cuvee that offered both quality and value? The result, first released in 1983, was Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay, a rich, round and flavorful wine, made with hand-crafted...
