Alcohol By Volume: 12.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

A characteristic and elegant wine. The colour is pale yellow with a greenish glint so typical of Chablis. On the nose, the aromas bring to mind citrus, white flowers and nearly salty notes. On the palate, the first impression is clear-cut and fresh. Long on the aftertaste, with fruity as well as mineral flavors; a honey-like sensation when the wine is more evolved.

Critical Acclaim

"Steely and tight, with plenty of energy. A vein of mineral and a racy structure propel the lemon, apple and melon flavors. Balanced, with tension and a lingering flinty aftertaste. Best from 2012 through 2022. 70 cases imported. "

"On the south bank of the River Serein, Secher is one of the lesser known Premiere Crus. This is a cool, crisp wine, emphasizing both green fruits and and underlying buttery touch. Beautifully integrated acidity frames the wine. "
92 Points

"Tart and young, this has a tension to its rich chardonnay flavor, a dark-grained intensity that fills out the plate. There's a fresh lemon verbena scent that lasts, hinting at the flavor development to come and suggesting a match with Asian dishes when the wine is more fully mature."
92 Points

"Pale, bright yellow. Delicate, high-pitched aromas of violet, lavender and ginger. Then dense and primary in the mouth, with excellent breadth but a noteworthy light touch to its talc and crushed stone flavors. The ineffable high notes carry through on the palate of this very dry, subtly persistent premier cru."

Learn About Chablis

Chablis got a bad rap when its name was plastered on large jug wines in the 1980's and 90's. Luckily, the wine in those jugs has nothing in common with the actual region. Wines produced in Chablis are some of the most unique in the world. Typical descriptors of a classic Chablis include a greenish tinge on the wine, minerality and crisp acidity balanced by a round mouthfeel....
