Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Pale gold. Intense, with fresh notes of orange and of exotic spices, floral and musky. Powerful on the palate, embracing and warm, with a punch of minerality.

Seleccion Especial is an aperitif wine that goes very well with savoury dishes such as jamón serrano, caña de lomo and other cured meats. And of course foie gras. Another surprising pairing you may like to try is with tangerines - really!

Critical Acclaim

"The entry level 2008 Seleccion Especial was fermented in stainless steel with the alcohol level achieved naturally. Fragrant tropical and floral aromas inform the nose of this smooth-textured, viscous, sweet white. Savory, round, and lengthy, it can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with fruit desserts."
92 Points

"Green-tinged yellow. Intensely perfumed, floral-accented aromas of nectarine, orange, white flowers and honey. Sweet, spicy and creamy, offering ripe pit and citrus fruit, spice and honey flavors, firmed by a solid mineral spine. Finishes sappy and very long, with lingering citrus and floral notes. "

Learn About Other Dessert

Other Dessert Beyond Port and Sherry, here are a few of our favorites: Sauternes - the golden wine of the Sauternes region in Bordeaux, these wines are made with botrytis-affected Semillon grapes and produce a rich, honeyed concoction with an amazing balance of sweetness and acidity. Don"t discount Sauternes' neighbor, Barsac, or even the region across the river,...
