Winemaker's Notes

This wine is ruby/crimson in color, with purple tints. The nose shows intensely complex characters of rosemary, mint and coffee. This is followed up on the palate by an eruption of fruit flavors — primarily black cherry and blackberry, with hints of mocha and dried herbs. The tannins are fine grained and supple and the wine has a long, integrated finish.

As with previous releases of "The Cover Drive", the wine displays harmonious balance and can be enjoyed now or will reward cellaring for 2-3 years.

Critical Acclaim

"Value reds $20 and under .Tasted and recommended, but no tasting note given."
90 Points

"Ruby-red. Fresh red berries and minerals on the nose, with a subtle peppery quality adding interest. Brisk and focused, offering vibrant raspberry and cherry flavors and gaining structure on the back end. Already quite seductive, this is really hiding its tannins today."
90 Points

"Good varietal cabernet with plenty of cassis and a mere suggestion of mint; quite fleshy, supple and long on the finish. Screwcap."
90 Points

"Mint is the dominant character up front, but the currant and blackberry fruit flavors emerge in the mouth and end up enriching the finish beautifully, making for a charming mix. Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2012. 4,500 cases imported. "

Loved it and ordered more. I didn't take notes when I drank it but I loved it, so have to go from memory. It had wonderful fig and plum flavors. The nose and bouquet was filled with caramel and coca. The only complaint may be the relatively thin body. It is not really bold and complex and rich. But rather, it is very smooth and pleasant. More like a Merlot than a Cab. I will give it 91.

This wine is a screwtop, and at first taste is nothing to write home about. let it breathe for 5 minutes and you begin tasting complexity in the wine. Another 5 and you get chocolates and tobacco. Another 5 and you get cloves/berries. and on and on and on. this is an intriguing wine because of its unique personality

Learn About Coonawarra

Located on the Limestone Coast of South Australia, Coonawarra is a pretty flat area, except for the vineyards, which are somewhat elevated. That, along with the proximity to the ocean and clouds that like to hang around, Coonawarra never gets too hot. There is a small strip of soil, about nine miles long and two miles wide, called Terra Rossa, or red soil/earth. It is the...

Learn About Cabernet Sauvignon

(cab-uhr-NAY sow-veeh-yawn) King of Red Many refer to Cabernet Sauvignon as the king of red grapes. Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
