    Winemaker Notes

Located in the Russian River Valley, this vineyard is comprised of seven separate blocks of well draining loam and clay soils which are all planted to various percentages of Zinfandel, Petite Syrah and Alicante Bouschet, some as early as 1858. All are head trained with an overhead 2-wire trellis system. The wines created from this vineyard are big and fruity with many different levels of complexities. Varietals: 78% Zinfandel, 12% Petite Syrah, 10% Alicante Bouschet Appellation: Russian River Valley, Sonoma County Alcohol: 15.0% Cases produced: 120 Comments: Opaque purple color, aromas of wild berries, spice and vanilla with subtle touches of roasted herbs and smoke. An incredible lush and concentrated wine whose flavors of blueberries and raspberries are intertwined with cinnamon and spice to complete the experience. Perfect for grilled meats, stews and artery clogging cheeses.

When Jeff Cohn was the winemaker at Rosenblum Cellars, annually he crafted more than 70 different wines. Today, at his Oakland-based warehouse winery, the irrepressible vintner now limits himself to a mere 21 bottlings, focusing on Rhône varietals. Cohn's longtime relationships with some of California's top growers and vineyards enable him to source some of the state’s finest fruit, including Rockpile in Sonoma County, Fess Parker in Santa Barbara County and Stagecoach in Napa.

All JC Cellars wines are fermented in open top fermenting vessels that range in size from a half ton to eight tons, where each bin is hand punched down five times per day. This time-consuming procedure allows maximum exposure of skins to juice, intensifying the flavor of the fruit while handling it as gently as possible.
