#23 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2008
This wine is 100% Syrah and is partially destemmed, based on the vintage. Total elevage is almost two years before bottling, with at least 20 months in cask. It has spicy aromas with nuances of blackberry and blackcurrant. The wine also has pronounced tannins, making it great for cellaring.
"Vivid red. Highly fragrant, displaying scents of red berries, rose and baking spices, with a hint of white pepper. Smells like a sexy Burgundy. Lithe and precise raspberry and cherry flavors show a suave blend of sweetness and energy, with zesty acidity adding lift. Finishes on a nervy mineral note, with an excellent, floral-dominated persistence. I underestimated this wine when I tasted it last year."
