Javillier Meursault Les Clous-ots 2006
Chardonnay
from Burgundy, France
winemaker's notes:
This proprietary (and personally named) new blend represents the true heart of Meursault—Javillier harvested flawless fruit from higher-slope "Clous" and lower-slope "Crotots" (next to premier cru "Porusot") that together captures the sweet spot of the vintage.
"($85; a blend of the lieux-dits Clous and Crotots) Bright, cooler aromas of peach, acacia flower and fresh herbs. Suave and sweet on entry, then nicely concentrated and brisk in the middle, with the impression of coolness carrying through from the nose. Lovely subtle stone fruit flavors. A sweet, harmonious wine with a firm finish. This, too, shows more terroir than vintage character.

"A new wine for Javillier – combining fruit from Les Clous and a recently-acquired parcel in Les Crotots a site below Poruzots – the 2006 Meursault Les Clous-ots displays heady floral perfume and a Pinot Gris-like peachiness, smokiness, nutty richness, and spiciness. With considerable opulence of texture and low-toned depth, yet not lacking for freshness or lift, it finishes with admirable persistence. While there is no track record for this cuvee, I suspect it will be at its best between 2-4 years after bottling."
