    Winemaker Notes

Our 2002 Santa Barbara County Syrah is big and extracted. It is powerful, dark stuff reflecting the best characters of all the vineyards we work with. It combines Thompson Vineyard (24%), Stolpman Family Vineyard (7%), Melville Vineyard (46%), Bien Nacido Vineyard (5%), and other fruit ( 18% - Great Oaks, Hampton, Premier Coastal Vineyards). The Thompson Syrah is the deep, fruity component. The Bien Nacido Syrah is dark and spicy, almost rough in texture. The Stolpman Syrah is elegant, and has classic flavors of coffee and blueberries. The Melville fruit adds power, aromatics and flavors of Provincial spice. The other vineyards are blended in small quantity and subtly add to the wine's complexity.
