Perched at an elevation of 1200 feet, the Paras Vineyard on Mt. Veeder produces some of the finest red grapes in Napa Valley. With its steep terraces and exposed hilltops, this vineyard requires uncommon dedication to winegrowing. A broad range of red grapes thrive here, however the Syrah, a red Rhone grape, reaches perfection on tightly spaced rows reminiscent of the best Rhone Valley vineyards.
This special bottling of Syrah, Cask P-10, is named from the number of barrels produced from our favorite block of vines. Ten narrow rows on a steep north face ripen slowly on well drained soil of decomposed schist and shale. The poor soil limits vine growth and cluster size, resulting in delicious, concentrated fruit.
This 100 percent Syrah shares the classic hallmarks of its Rhone ancestors in its extracted dense color and ability to age for decades. The saturated black color and rich aromas of sweet blackberry, coffee, and dark chocolate are decadent. The first sip confirms an inherent richness and creamy texture, supported by large tannins that build on the finish. Syrah with this young structure typically evolves slowly, often taking 20 years or more to soften and usually outpacing Cabernet Sauvignon from the same vintage. Drink now through 2020.

The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...Read More About Napa Valley

The home base of Syrah is the Northern Rhone, where it creates the exclusive wines of Hermitage and Cote Rotie. On the less pricy side, the Rhone makes Syrah-based wines in Crozes...Read More About Syrah/Shiraz
