Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Winemaker's Notes

Larner was my first. My first vineyard designated wine, my first fruit contract, my first Syrah. I'm happy to say that we still get along. Heck, it just keeps getting better. This is my 4th Larner Syrah, and it's got everything I love most about the vineyard: huge fruit, balanced minearlity and fantastic spice. Lush aromas of cherry pie, jasmine, lava rock and fresh tarragon introduce a full bodied but nimble palate that carries seamlessly from grilled pineapple, smashed strawberry and beets to licorice, bark, clove and warm tar. Without question a worthy tribute to a lasting relationship. (DRINK NOW: decant 2+ hours, CELLAR: 8-10 years)

Critical Acclaim

"Complex, with ripe, juicy plum, blackberry and wild berry fruit that touches on jam without being heavy. Full-bodied and spicy, ending with a persistent finish anchored by minerality. Drink now through 2018."

Learn About Herman Story

I am Russell P. From, winemaker and sole employee of Herman Story Wines.

Herman Story Wines are made, schlepped, peddled, and drunk with friends by me. The basic web design books tell me that you’re probably here for the basics: to find release schedules, ordering information and tasting opportunities for the wines I make, which sounds pretty good to me. The less time I spend writing this stuff the more time I spend in the cellar. So here you go, all the facts with none of the filler. An aesthetic I stand by and believe my wines do too.

Learn About Syrah/Shiraz

(seh-RAH/shee-RAHZ) It's a Smokin' Grape Syrah and Shiraz - same grape, different name. It's a popular and adept variety, growing in multiple regions and creating many different styles of wine. The home base of Syrah is the Northern Rhone, where it creates the exclusive wines of Hermitage and Cote Rotie. On the less pricy side, the Rhone makes Syrah-based wines in Crozes...
