Gewürztraminer is the quintessential Alsatian variety that thrives here with
the long , cool, dry seasons and depth of minerality from the soil. The
grapes in the Helfrich Noble Varieties come from the Couronne d'Or
(Golden Crown), an association of local vineyards and winemakers that run
through the middle of Alsace. The vineyards are sloped with a South /
South East exposure, while the soil is mostly calcareous and thin. The vines
are dry farmed and trained upwards for maximum exposure to the sun.
Classic in its Alsatian style, this Gewürztraminer is fragrant, fresh, and fruity.
It displays aromas of pears and tropical fruit and has a nice, full body that
transitions into a long and pleasant finish.
I tried this wine slightly chilled and it tasted good, but the aroma wasn't as pleasing as I thought it would be. It smelled a bit acidic, which in turn made the wine taste less appealing. Looking beyond that, there was a hint of pears and mango, which was pleasant. I felt it tasted much better the next day straight out the fridge, though.
