Hartwell Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California
Wine Style Guide
Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.
Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.
Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.
Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.
Alcohol By Volume: 14.2%
Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
"Wow! Was I blown away by this wine, which I do not remember ever rating so highly. This is an opaque purple-colored, seriously endowed Cabernet displaying an extraordinary bouquet of spring flowers, lead pencil shavings, creme de cassis and subtle oak. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, it possesses sweet tannins, beautiful integration of wood, tannin, acidity and alcohol, and a full-bodied, powerful yet elegant personality."
The Wine Advocate
"Smooth, rich and creamy, this is a plush and inviting wine with generous black cherry and blackberry fruit that's ripe and layered, offering depth and concentration and finishing with a warm chocolate aftertaste."
"Rich, creamy and lush on the palate, with loads of cassis that just roll on and on through the velvety finish. But is no simple fruit bomb—it also delivers plenty of dried herb and tobacco complexity wrapped in toast and vanilla."
"Saturated ruby-red. Roasted plum, mocha and chocolate liqueur on the inviting nose. Sweet and lush in the mouth, with very ripe, mellow flavors of currant, cherry, tar and melting chocolate. This has the fat of a topnotch merlot. Long finish features substantial but thoroughly sweet tannins."
